ADULT PROGRAM

solar Eclipse

All About Eclipses
With Marck Van Baalen, Ph.D.

March 30, at 1:00 p.m.

Join us to learn why solar and lunar eclipses occur; why we do not see one every month; where to view these events in Maine and elsewhere; how to safely view a solar eclipse to avoid eye damage; and fateful eclipses in history. The library will also be distributing eclipe-viewing safety glasses, while supplies last. Van Baalen has degrees in Astronomy and Geology from Harvard, and is a veteran of 15 solar eclipses and many lunar eclipses. He resides in Rockport and is Past Commodore of the Rockport Boat Club.

CHILDREN/FAMILY PROGRAM

Special Author Event With Ben Hatke
April 13, at 11:00 a.m.

Join us for a very special event with New York Times bestselling author/illustrator, Ben Hatke! Hatke’s presentation will explore and demonstrate his approach to visual storytelling and encourage kids to try his strategies with their own stories. Ben Hatke is the author/ilustrator of the much-loved Zita the Spacegirl graphic novel trilogy. He has also created many other popular fantasy adventures such as the Mighty Jack graphic novel series, Julia’s House for Lost Creatures, and his latest graphic novel series, Things in the Basement.

Space is limited for this event. Please call the library, 207-236-3642, to register your family.

This is a free event, open to all families.

The Friends of the Rockport Public Library introduces library lovers to each other while building connections throughout our community. Hosting meetings, events, and book sales, the organization supports the library on several levels. In past years, we have helped purchase library materials; supported the annual butterfly gardens; provided new book stacks and exterior railings; and funded programs that serve everyone using the library.
