Welcome to the 2008 Maine Libraries Conference!

The Maine Libraries Conference is a state-wide collaborative opportunity to celebrate, support, and strengthen librarianship in Maine.

 

The Maine Libraries Conference 2008 was held at
the Grand Summit Resort Hotel at Sunday River in Bethel, Maine.

  • Conference Testimonials.
  • Help make the next conference even better. Please download the Conference Evaluation Form, complete it and return it to Edna, so we can know what worked and what didn't.
  • Send your conference photos to mlarson@rockport.lib.me.us.
  • Betsy Webb, Superintendent of Schools for the Bangor School Department, was recognized as the Administrator of the Year and the Maine Libraries Conference on October 23rd.  Nominated by Deborah Averill, Library Media Specialist at Bangor High School, Ms. Webb was lauded as “the kind of administrator we as school library personnel can often only dream of.”
  • Betsy York was named the Walter J. Taranko School Library Media Specialist of the year at the Maine Libraries Conference on October 23rd. The announcement was made by Teri Caouette, past president of the Maine Association of School Libraries.  Betsy was given a plaque and $500 donation to the school library media program in her name. Nominated by Roger Shaw, Superintendent of Schools, MSAD #42, Betsy has been the district’s library media specialist for over 30 years.
  • Edna Comstock is the recipient of the Maine Libraries Conference Co-Chair Award 2008-This award honors a person who was particularly helpful (invaluable, really) in making the conference a success. Edna was the conference manager and so much more. Through it all she never lost her patience and good humor. Thanks, Edna. From Conference Co-Chairs Molly Larson (MLA) and Peggy Becksvoort (MASL).
  • Senator Beth Edmonds received the Presidents' Award which is given by the president of both MASL and MLA. Jeff Small and Molly Larson presented Senator Edmonds with this award honoring her terms of service in the Maine State Senate, her service to the people of Maine, and for her advocacy on behalf of all Maine libraries.
  • Abraham Schechter offers 20% discount coupon to go toward the purchase of the textbook he wrote and illustrated, which is the basis for the workshops he's been teaching around the state. 9 years and counting!
