Who We Are
A message from the director
If you are interested in learning what is happening with future planning activities, please feel free to call anytime. Also check our planning page for announcements
and some useful information.
Welcome to the Rockport Public Library Online, where you can access information 24 hours a day.
From our site you will be able to search your library record, look for and request books in the Minerva online catalog, download audiobooks, search for maps, and find out what’s happening at the library.
There is also a link to MARVEL, Maine’s Virtual Library. If you haven’t tried MARVEL, I recommend that you do. There is something for everyone. MARVEL is a searchable collection of resources such as encyclopedias, newspapers and magazines found at one convenient location and free to all Maine citizens.
New to our on-line services are downloadable audio and electronic books (or eBooks). You will find the link on the front page of our website. If you have questions about using these services you can try our handy tutorials or you can always set up an appointment with a staff member. We also offer a database of maps and other resources through A-Z the USA, and recently added are Global Road Warrior and A-Z World Traveler which contain a wealth of information for travelers. It is also a wonderful resource for students doing projects on a particular country. All you need to gain access to these databases is a valid Rockport Public Library card.
If you have questions about using MARVEL or any other resource please contact us. Check back frequently for updates to our website and please e-mail us with your ideas and suggestions.
We look forward to serving you.

Staff News!

Kim Slocomb has returned to the staff and has accepted the position of children's librarian. Liza Walsh will remain on the staff in an on-call capacity in order to spend more time with her family and to pursue her writing career.
Kim will be starting her new position here at Rockport Public Library on Monday, February 25. We will be having a Hail and Farewell reception for both Kim and Liza-date to be announced. This will give the community a chance to thank Liza and to meet Kim.
Some of you may remember that Kim Slocomb was on staff here at RPL for several years. She also worked at the Rockland Public Library. Through her career she has been a cataloger, a branch library supervisor, and a volunteer coordinator. As an educator...she has a degree in early childhood education, has worked in classrooms as a teacher and as a teaching assistant and tutor, has taken many continuing education trainings in library related issues and education. Along with her professional experience, she has many years volunteering for Special Olympics and the Freedom Riders.
Kim says that the children's librarian position allows her to use her skills as a teacher AND a librarian by allowing her to do what she loves most and that is working with children in the community and in a library environment.

Congratulations to Ann Filley on your Bachelor of Science Degree in Information and Library Services from the University of Maine at Augusta. Well done!
What you may not know....
Did you know....your Rockport librarians can also...Play ice hockey. Play the accordion. Operate a forklift. Play the violin (2) (but hate performance). Sing a solo in front of 800 people. Help two Parisian ladies use their balsamic vinegar mister. That two are published children's book authors. At least two of us are a fan of the rock group Queen (and a couple of us know the lyrics well enough to sing along!).

Tom Babbitt, Jane's husband for nearly forty years, arranged for a special singing valentine today courtesy of the Windjammer Barbershop Chorus. Chorus members left to right are: Ray Gross (tenor), Ed Joy (lead), Peter Marckoon (bass), Bill Robinson (baritone). Jane is the smiling woman with the rose, of course.
Iris Eichenlaub has resigned her on-call position here at RPL. She will be missed! Thank you for all you have done for RPL and for all you do for Maine libraries, and your colleagues, Iris!
